What you will work on

Your mission

Build the backend and data architecture that powers our climate management engine and makes carbon scores available to our customers

Root is on a mission to build the most complete data set on the carbon emissions of the global food industry - from food brands and retailers to processors and growers. We help our customers identify, collect, and centralise operations data across their supply chains, which we combine with the most up-to-date emission factor data sets to model each company’s and product’s environmental footprint. Like this, we do not only help customers disclose their climate scores, but also identify and act upon individual emission hotspots across their supply chains.

In the first 6 months, you will

• Design, build/customise, and maintain the infrastructure required for climate data collection and storage
  • Especially identifying and centralising the right emission factor data for our relevant use cases will be a big part of your responsibilities
• Identify and integrate different data sources (via APIs from external data providers, webscraping, etc.) into one central, single-source-of-truth database of emission factors, relevant for our customers in the food & beverage industry
  • Design a data strategy to expand, continuously update and improve our emission factor database, in line with scientific research progress
• Extract and clean customer and supplier activity data so that we can translate raw business activity data into final carbon scores and reduction potential
  • Define data collection strategies and processes for our corporate customers and their suppliers and help them upload and validate the correct raw data
